Ukraine Points Finger At Russian Security Services In Recent Cyber Attack

Ukraine said on Saturday that Russian security services were involved in a recent cyber attack on the country, with the aim of destroying important data and spreading panic. The SBU, Ukraine’s state security service, said the attack, which started in Ukraine and spread around the world on Tuesday, was by the same hackers who attacked the Ukrainian power grid in December 2016. Ukrainian politicians were quick to blame Russia for Tuesday’s attack, but a Kremlin spokesman dismissed “unfounded blanket accusations”. Cyber security firms are trying to piece together who was behind the computer worm, dubbed NotPetya by some experts, which conked out computers, hit banks, disrupted shipping and shut down a chocolate factory in Australia. The attack also hit major Russian firms, leading some cyber security researchers to suggest that Moscow was not behind it. The malicious code in the virus encrypted data on computers, and demanded victims pay a $300 ransom, similar to the extortion

Brazilian Doctors Use Fish Skin To Treat Burn Victims

Brazilian Doctors Use Fish Skin To Treat Burn Victims Researchers in Brazil are experimenting with a new treatment for severe burns using the skin of tilapia fish, an unorthodox procedure they say can ease the pain of victims and cut medical costs. Frozen pig skin and human tissue have long been placed on burns to keep them moist and allow the transfer of collagen, a protein that promotes healing, but Brazil’s public hospitals lack human and pig skin supplies. Instead, gauze bandage, which needs regular changing – often painfully – is the norm. Tilapia is abundant in Brazil’s rivers and fish farms, which are expanding rapidly as demand grows for the mildly flavoured freshwater fish. Scientists at the Federal University of Ceara in northern Brazil have found that tilapia skin has moisture, collagen and disease resistance at levels comparable to human skin, and can aid in healing. The tilapia treatment can speed up healing by several days and reduces the need for pain medic

Paris 2024 Olympic Bid Embodies “Threatened” Values, Macron Says. French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday described Paris’ bid to host the 2024 Olympics as the strongest defence of the Games’ values of openness, tolerance and respect for the environment, principles he said were at risk. In its candidacy to host the 2024 Games, Paris is competing against Los Angeles, whose bid has been publicly backed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Macron has traded barbs with Trump over climate change policy, calling his decision to leave the Paris accord on climate change a mistake. Trump was not present in Lausanne, though heads of state had never before attended this July meeting for Olympic bids. Paris, which hosted the 1900 and 1924 Games, is bidding for the fourth time after having missed out on 1992, 2008 and the 2012 Olympics with Macron’s presence seen as key in this race. The IOC will vote later on Tuesday on whether to ratify its executive board’s recommendation to a
